verizon business data device plans headr january 2022

Coinciding with yesterday's rollout of C-Band 5G service, Verizon announced new business data plans for data-only devices. These new data device plans join the currently available Verizon Business 2.0 Unlimited Smartphone plans starting today, January 20th.

The new data device plans come in two tiers, Business Unlimited Plus Data Device and Business Unlimited Pro Data Device, each providing different allotments of high-speed data, followed by unlimited data at Verizon's standard throttled speeds.

New Data Device Plans

The new Verizon Business data plan options are available standalone or in addition to an existing smartphone account for eligible businesses. Both plans include access to the 5G Ultra Wideband (UW), 5G Nationwide (NW), and 4G LTE networks. A 5G UW and/or NW device is required for use on those networks.

Video streaming on both plans is available at 4K on 5G Ultra Wideband or 720p while on 5G Nationwide or 4G LTE.

Canada/Mexico data usage is included in the plan, with data speeds reduced to 2G speed after 500 MB/day. However, if more than 50% of your talk, text, or data usage in a 60-day period is in Canada or Mexico, the use of those services in those countries may be removed or limited. Domestic data roaming is at 2G speeds.

These two plans replace the Business Unlimited Data Device plan, which was $45/month, was subject to network management at 22GB, and had access to the 4G/LTE and 5G NW networks but not to the 5G UW network.

Eligible Devices

data devices

These new data device plans are eligible for use on jetpacks, USB devices, laptops, and Verizon-certified routers. Verizon has not yet verified most 5G routers, including those from Pepwave, which means you can't activate these plans directly on 5G routers currently.

Verizon does not typically restrict SIM swapping between devices once a plan is activated, however.

5G access requires a 5G capable device and 5G Ultra-Wideband (UW) requires a device that supports the UW bands (C-Band n77 and millimeter wave).

Verizon Business Plan Line Up

Verizon Business also offers smartphone, tablet, business internet, and fixed internet plans. No updates were announced for these plans. The most recent update to these plans occurred in October 2021.

Unlimited Smartphone Plans

As of this writing, the Business Unlimited Pro 2.0 smartphone plan remains a Top Pick here at the Mobile Internet Resource Center, offering unlimited on-device data not subject to network management deprioritization with 100GB of premium mobile hotspot data for $95.

The Verizon Business plan smartphone line-up as of January 20th, 2022 is as follows:

Unlimited Tablet Plans

Verizon Business also offers tablet-specific data plans. The Top Pick Business Unlimited Pro Tablet plan includes unlimited on-device data, network management after 35GB, and 15GB of mobile hotspot data for $40/month. This plan is available standalone without an associated smartphone plan.

Business Flexible Plans

Verizon Business offers flexible data plans with pooled data buckets to be shared across an unlimited number of smartphone or tablet devices. These plans offer limited data - up to 10GB - so we don't consider them of interest to those seeking a home internet replacement while mobile.

LTE Business Internet & 5G Business Internet Plans

Verizon Business also offers LTE Business Internet plans which provide tiered speed and data plans designed for remote business locations, remote workers, and as a backup to a primary business connection. These plans are authorized for mobile use. Each tier of service comes with a set amount of premium data before network management applies, and up to 300GB of usage monthly. After 300GB of data is used, add-on data is automatically applied to the account in increments of 5GB for $10. And each plan level comes with a price-lock period before the monthly price is increased by $10/month.

Verizon also offers speed-tiered 5G fixed-location wireless business plans. Because these are intended for a fixed location (aka, not mobile), we do not consider them worthy mobile internet options.

Eligibility

verizon business eligibility

Verizon Business accounts can consist of as little as one line.

In order to qualify for a Verizon Business Plan, you must be able to provide a tax ID number and a credit check will be run on the business owner. While eligibility requirements are not publicly posted on Verizon's website, after multiple chat sessions with Verizon business reps, we were able to confirm that Verizon will run a credit check.

Thoughts

Verizon's new Business Unlimited Plus Data Device and Business Unlimited Pro Data Device plans are major improvements over the previously offered Business Unlimited Data Device plan, which featured only 22GB of shareable data.

top pick

We now consider the Business Unlimited Pro plan, featuring 100GB of high-speed, business priority data a Top Pick plan. Those eligible for a business account can get 100GB of data for $75/mo standalone ($.0.75/GB), which costs $90 standalone or $60 added on through Verizon's consumer department.

Through Verizon's consumer department however, you can get a similar plan but at $110/150GB ($0.73/GB) stand-alone. And it's even cheaper if added to an existing unlimited smartphone line at $80/150GB ($0.53/GB).

For those who don't need 100GB of data, the 60GB option is a good choice as it provides the same price-per-GB as the 100GB plan which is unusual - typically higher data cap plans offer a better price-per-GB value than smaller plans.

The Business Unlimited Pro Plan joins the Business Unlimited Pro 2.0 Smartphone plan, Business Unlimited Pro Tablet plan, and LTE Business Internet plan in our Top Pick line-up. You can see all of our Top Pick plans in our guide:
