WELCOME!

Welcome to the Florida State College at Jacksonville Center for International Education (CIE); where we inspire cultural awareness and an appreciation of diverse peoples through a variety of programs and opportunities. Established in 2019, The Center for International Education (CIE) marked the beginning of strategic programming designed to offer FSCJ faculty, staff, students and the greater community with international learning opportunities. You are invited to learn more about the CIE and we look forward to your participation in our various programs.

Our Mission is to connect the global community of learners and educators toward global citizenship in a changing world.

Our Vision is to cultivate global mindedness and a respect for cultural diversity.

There are four distinct program areas in which the CIE continues to grow and develop international education:

  1. Global Scholars Distinction and Global Citizen Award
  2. International Learning Opportunities through Signature Events and Student Engagement Activities
  3. Study Abroad at FSCJ and Study U.S.A.
  4. Virtual Exchange

Global Scholars Distinction (GSD) and Global Citizen Award (GCA): FSCJ has partnered with UNC World View from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. FSCJ is the only partner from Florida and also has the only fully globalized Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in the country. Global Scholars Distinction is an education framework for globalizing various activities and assignments within a course as well as providing global experiences and activities for students. Here at FSCJ, we have more than 25 globalized courses.

International Learning Opportunities: Offers students the opportunity to engage in international learning here at the campus or in the community. Each year the CIE hosts an International Education Conference focused on providing cultural experiences and professional development centered around global topics. Signature events also provide the college community with opportunities to connect with professionals from other countries on a variety of topic either in person or through webinars. Each year the CIE hosts a Celebration of Cultures Photo Contest which is open for all faculty, staff and students to enter cultural photographs. In addition, the CIE works with UNF to offer the Friendship Across Cultures program which connects FSCJ ESOL students with UNF TESOL students to learn, communicate and develop cultural and language skills.

Study Abroad at FSCJ and Study U.S.A.: Offers students and faculty the opportunity for domestic or study abroad travel to learn about different cultures, peoples, languages and societies. Through Alternative Spring Break and Faculty-Led Study Abroad programs, the CIE is developing affordable and time conscious opportunities for students to participate in programs which cater to the needs of our students while being impactful and diverse.

Virtual Exchange: Collaborative program allowing FSCJ faculty and students to work alongside partners from other countries for cultural and academic learning using a virtual platform. This is an evidence-based pedagogy that allows students the opportunity to connect synchronously and asynchronously with students all over the world and from other states. FSCJ has partners in the United Kingdom, Brazil, Colombia, France and South Africa. We continue to develop partnerships with a variety of countries around the world.
